Kris Wang Announces 2012 Candidacy for Santa Clara County Supervisor
CUPERTINO -- Former Mayor and Cupertino City Councilwoman Kris Wang announced her candidacy today for the District 5 representative of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
"After a great deal of encouragement from family and community leaders, I am excited for the opportunity to represent the cities of Cupertino, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, West San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills at the county level. We continue to face challenging times with limited financial resources and a growing demand for improved public safety, health care, environmental sustainability and welfare. I look forward to the opportunity to advance the values that our residents have long stood for, balancing fiscal discipline while planning for the needs of a vibrant community, providing quality services, and promoting a safe, healthy, and prosperous community."
Wang has been active in private industry, cultural affairs and civic life in Santa Clara County for over 30 years. She served as mayor of Cupertino in 2007 and 2010 and is a former executive board member and President of the Santa Clara County Cities Association. Wang has also served as Chair of the Santa Clara County Parks & Recreation Commission, Vice Chair of Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Agent Advisory Board, Vice Chair of Santa Clara County Recycling Waste & Reduction Commission, member of the Revenue & Taxation Policy Committee, member of the Environmental Quality Policy Committee, member of the League of California Cities, and member of the US Army North California Advisory Board.
Prior to entering public service, Wang spent over 20 years as a senior manager, computer software engineer and entrepreneur in the high-tech industry. She and her husband Gene live in Cupertino, and they have two sons.
